Many people forget about sticky rice, which is a huge shape in Thailand. This is especially best with papaya salad.
what would you serve sticky rice with, if you don´t eat it as a desert? Would you put salt in the preperation?
@killthelights2, yes, it should be possible to use anything that produces steam if you can put a covered wire mesh in the path of the steam. Some rice cookers have a steaming basket which might work well depending. Just be careful around the boiling water.

@lovewillkeepuwarm You don’t need to change the top if you start out using one the right size for the amount of rice you are cooking. We made that mistake and changed it half way between, which didn’t cause a problem. The right sized top will just help keep the steam in better.
How long in the cooking process to you change the top du a smaller size?

@cjizzleismynizzle Wow! That is such a great question I am surprised nobody has asked it yet. Actually, it is difficult to tell if sweet rice tastes more sweet than any other rice and I don’t think any rice tastes very sweet. There may be another reason it is called “sweet” rice – it is often used in deserts where sweet things like sugar and honey are added to it. In the dish, Sticky Rice with Mangoes sweet coconut milk is poured over sticky rice.
Does the rice taste sweet without adding anything to it? Do you need to add sugar or honey when making it for a desert?
I LOVE steamed Thai rice. It is so much better than what I grew up with.

@DizzyAja In Western countries, most Asian grocery stores will have bags of what is called, Sweet Rice or Glutinous Rice in the isle with the other rice. You might even find it in the regular supermarket. If you look closely at the grains you can see they are generally more opaque, shorter and fatter than than the other types of rice.
