The First Photograph Of A Human Being

This picture, the earliest known photo to capture a recognizable human form, was taken in Paris, France, in 1838 by Louis Daguerre. If you’re struggling to spot it, the humans in question are at the bottom left of the photograph, on the pavement by the curve in the road. One person is shining the others boots.

It is believed that the exposure time for the image was around seven minutes, and although the street would have been busy with traffic and pedestrians, it appears deserted. That’s because everything was moving too fast to register on the plate.

The exception is the two men mentioned, although the person getting his boots shined is much more distinctly visible than the one doing the cleaning.

Although we don’t know for sure, it is doubtful that the two men were moaning about paparazzi and invasion of privacy as the photo was taken.
